“Every day may not be good…but there is something good in every day.”

Do you ever feel like you need a change of perspective?  That you may have been looking at things wrong maybe.  I started out this week with a pretty down out look about some things.  I don’t like that looking up from that perspective.  What is the saying “turn that frown upside down”.  Well I decided to just turn the camera upside down last night.  Sitting here at my desk thinking about a lot of things I grabbed my camera and turned it on myself again.

This next month I am going to focus on getting the right perspective.  Even though I am now half way through the month I think there is still time to pick a word for the month.  So this month it is going to be “Perspective”.  I may try to blog about some photo related perspective but also about what I am finding out about my how I am going to look at my family and my work and my faith.

So I leave you this morning with the thought of looking at things from a fresh perspective.

Coming from Vegas, the sunsets could take your breath away. I have heard it is because of the dust in the air and how the light hits the particles and reflects…that sounds legit. Whatever the reason, they are beautiful. But now I am not in the desert. I am on the Gulf Coast. Now someone tell me why these sunsets are beautiful?

All I know is that there is something about being able to see the sun sink below the horizon. If there are good cloud formations then it is usually even more stunning. But what about the things around during the sunset? How are they affected? Do they realize how beautiful they are in that sinking sun’s golden light? Simple things take on a different aura. No wonder people will just go sit out on the beach and wait. It’s calming. It can even be spiritual.

Popular styles in photography come and go like Hollywood weddings (what? You didn’t hear that Tom-Kat is no more?!).  There was the frames (did that) framing people.  How about all that vintage furniture? You still will find me searching craigslist and the local thrifts because I do still love it!  There are so many with just props.  But what about editing?  There was the color selection fad for a bit…probably my least favorite…no, really is my least favorite.  There were the texture overlays (been there, done that).  And hanging on more as a trend then a fad is the vintage edit.  Now I like those.  Some of them. …I learned from my dad.  That should be the title of my son’s memoirs when he grows up and learns that “yes, perhaps mom and dad knew what they were talking about.”  If that is the book title then this would be the cover image…

Boys should look up to their dads and dads should look out for their boys.  I am very blessed to have a loving and wise father myself and also blessed that the man I married is a loving and wise father to his children.  Our boys think he is the coolest and funniest man on this planet.  It doesn’t hurt that “dad” is also a fighter pilot.  This particular image was captured one day when we went to greet jets returning from one of the “dad’s” final flight in the squadron.  It is not unusual to catch any of the young boys out there standing beside their fathers and listening to them relive the “fight” with the bros or just standing in awe as dad flies overhead, lands, parks and then climbs out of the jet.  I never tire of going out there to witness it.  Walking back to the squadron, these dads usually have kids in one hand and flight gear in another.  It is always a joy to watch.

Dad’s don’t need to be fighter pilots to be heroes to their kids.  They just need to be there and to love them and love their mothers.  That is a hero.  Thanks to all the dads out there.  We love you.

One thing that Facebook has managed to do consistently well is change.  Yesterday they sent out notification that all Pages would be moving to the Timeline view on 30 March.  Right now, you have the option to just preview what timeline would look like, go ahead and move early, or hold out and wait until everyone is changed to Timeline on March 30th.  At first, I was not very interested in Timeline.  But the more I thought about it and looked at it, the more I decided that the Timeline was not all that bad. {My Timeline View} Read the rest of this entry »
